Overview:
Ansel Adams was blessed with both prodigious talent and a deep commitment to the environment. While many know him only as a photographer, he was actually on his way to becoming a classical pianist when a meeting with Paul Strand aroused his interest in photography. His work in the medium would end up benefiting not only the owners and viewers of his photographs, but also his subject--the natural world.

Working in the Western region of the United States, Adams created some of the most indelible images of the U.S. landscape ever captured on film. His artistic flexibility is evidenced in the many moods in which he captures Mother Nature. Some of his pieces are incredibly serene, such as "Oak Tree--Sunset City, CA" and "Pine Forest in the Snow." Others burst with frenetic life, including "Fore-Pond Spill" and "Bridal Veil Falls."
